Xiaomi has yet to launch the Mi 7, but talks of Xiaomi Mi 8 are already beginning to take shape, possibly a year before the phone’s expected launch.
It’s not strange at all for such rumors and speculations to show up way before a device is launched. We started seeing rumors about the Mi 7 back in 2017, yet until now, the phone has not been launched. If anything, get ready for more of these rumors and leaks about the 2019 Xiaomi Mi 8 as time goes by, beginning with a flurry of images obtained from China’s Weibo, a platform that has a mixed track record when it comes to leaks.
Xiaomi Mi 8 design and specs
What we have are believed to be the front panel and the retail box of the Xiaomi Mi 8. While none of these leaks gives us what we most desire to know – specs – we can gather a few things, especially on the design aspect.
As it is, Xiaomi Mi 8 will rock a notched display screen, which is not a surprise given the Mi 7 is also expected to take a similar path. Also, the front panel shows what could be a 3D facial recognition system alongside the front-facing camera, as seen in the image below.
As noted, we don’t have much about the phone’s specs and features, but given the retail box is already out, it shouldn’t be long before the entire beans spill.
Xiaomi Mi 8 price and availability
Much about the Xiaomi Mi 8 is still in the shadows, however, the continued availability of leaks and supposed retail materials suggests that the launch date isn’t too far away. I know it’s quite strange to talk about the launch date of a phone that is not expected until 2019. But apparently, rumor has it that this could be a rebranded Xiaomi Mi 7. Why because Xiaomi is celebrating its 8th anniversary.
It had been mooted that the Mi 7 will see the light on May 23 with pre-orders opening on May 27. If the Xiaomi Mi 8 is indeed a rebranded Mi 7, it means we only have a few days to the official launch.
