Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus are the first of their kind. Never have there been a phone named similarly and while we expect Samsung to accord them great care in terms of software updates, we don’t expect any drastic departures with respect to the Galaxy A series.
On this page, you’ll find all that you want to know regarding the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus software updates, be it major OS upgrades or the minor, monthly security updates.

Samsung Galaxy A6 Android P update
Expected release date: By end of 2018
Model | Current OS | Android P | Release date |
Galaxy A6 | Android 8.0 | Eligible | Q4 2018 |
Galaxy A6 Plus | Android 8.0 | Eligible | Q4 2018 |
Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus, like any other Sammy phone that will be unveiled this year, are powered by Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Samsung is not the type to bother about incremental upgrades, so we don’t expect anything to do with Oreo 8.1. Instead, the next major OS upgrade for Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus will be Android P.
Given their support for Project Treble, we expect to see a faster Android P rollout for the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus, but then again, we don’t make the rules. The success of Treble is heavily dependent on the willingness of OEMs to work on releasing timely software updates, something that only them can decide to do.
Still, we are hopeful that the A6 and A6 Plus will get Android P by the end of 2018, if not in early 2019.
